Microchip PicKit Serial Analyzer
Eu considero-me um fã incondicional da microchip mas tenho de confessar que desconhecia da existencia deste analisador. Eu vi este analisador nas paginas da farnell. Fiquei imediatamente interessado e quis experimentar. Quando a embalagem chegou fiquei mais uma vez surpreendido.
Junto com o analisador vinha também uma board de demonstração que eu nunca pensei que estivesse incluida pelo preço anunciado.
Na minha opinião, o preço é excelente considerando que este producto tem muita coisa boa.
I consider myself to be a diehard microchip fan but I must confess that I didn’t know about the existence of this analyzer. I saw this analyzer when visiting uk.farnell's webpage.. Immediately I got interested and decided to try it. When the package arrived I got another surprise.
In the package was also a demo board which I never thought it was included for the price it costs.
In my opinion, the price is very good considering that the package has a lot of stuff.
A board de demonstração tem 89mm por 59mm e vem equipada com um microcontrolador 16F886.
The demo board has 89mm by 59mm and it’s equipped with a 16F886 microcontroller.
O analisador PicKit é do mesmo tamanho e formato do programador PicKit.
The PicKit analyzer is the same size and shape of the PicKit programmer.
O programador liga directamente á placa de demonstração.
The programmer connects directly to the demo board.
Em relação á ligação ao PC, o analisador tem uma ficha miniUSB. O cabo vem incluido na embalagem.
For the PC connection the analyzer has a miniUSB connector. The cable is also included in the package.
O microcontrolador vem pré-programado com um código capaz de simular a maior parte das comunicações que o analisador trabalha.
The microcontroller comes pre-programmed with a code designed to simulate the major communication types that the analyzer can work with.
A board inclui também um conector ICSP para actualizar o firmware do microcontrolador.
The board also includes an ICSP connector to update the microcontroller’s firmware.
Soldados na pcb estão alguns componentes, Um deles é um cristal de 32.768Khz. Este cristal é usado numa das simulações de um componente RTC ( Real Time Clock ).
Mounted on the pcb there are a few components. One of them is a 32.768kHz cristal. This cristal is used because one of the applications that we can simulate is a RTC ( Real Time Clock ) device.
A ligação do analisador á placa é muito simples. Existem marcações tanto na pcb como no analisador a indicar o pino 1.
The connection between the demo board and the analyzer is very simple. There are labels on both pcb and analyzer indicating pin #1.
A board de demonstração também vem equipada com 4 LEDs. Estes LEDs iniciam uma sequência luminosa quando se liga a alimentação e são usados para a simulação da comunicação Usart de um circuito analogico.
The demo board also comes equipped with 4 LEDs. These LEDs will flash a sequence when the board is powered up and are used to monitor the analog device that will be simulated under Usart communication.
Para aumentar ou diminuir o valor analógico existe um pequeno potenciometro localizado num dos cantos da placa.
To increase and decrease the analog value we use a small potentiometer that it’s located on the corner of the pcb.
Com a ajuda de uma chave Phillips roda-se o potenciometro para variar o valor e os leds variam de acordo com a variação. A indicação luminosa é em formato binário de 0000 até 1111.
Using a Phillips screwdriver to change the value the LEDs will respond. They give a binary form reading from 0000 to 1111.
Existem marcações para outros componentes na pcb. A ficha de alimentação é um upgrade que poderemos instalar no caso de querermos usar a placa com alimentação externa.
There are layouts on the pcb for other components. The power connector is an upgrade part that we can install and use if we want to use an external power source.
Tal como outras placas da microchip, é equipada com 4 bases de borracha na parte inferior da pcb.
Like other microchip boards, there are 4 rubber pads on the bottom of the pcb.
O software para instalar no PC vem incluido na embalagem em formato CD. A instalação é simples e rápida. Funciona tanto em sistemas operativos windows XP como em windows 7. É possivel ver na janela de transferencias o estado no analisador quando este é conectado.
Também é possivel verificar a actual versão do firmware, versão do driver e versão do software.
The software to install in the PC is provided in a CD disk. The installation is quick and simple. They work in both XP and windows 7 Operating systems. When running the software and connecting the analyzer we can immediately see in the transactions windows the status of the tool. We can also see the analyzer’s firmware, driver version and software version.
Para a demo board temos 3 dispositivos que podemos simular. O primeiro é um circuito RTC.
For the Demo board we have 3 devices that we can simulate. The first one is a RTC device.
O segundo dispositivo é uma Eeprom.
The second device is an EEprom.
E o terceiro é um dispositivo ADC. Este menu mostra um medidor e que o ponteiro move-se de acordo com a variação no potenciometro.
And the third one is an ADC device. This menu shows a meter that will react to the potentiometer variations.
Este é o menu onde é possivel escolher o tipo de comunicação a testar. As comunicações possiveis são: I2C Master, I2C Slave, SPI Master, USART ASSYNCRONOUS, USART SYNCRONOUS, LIN e MICROWIRE MASTER.
Here is the menu were the type of communication to be tested can be selected. The communication types are: I2C MASTER, I2C SLAVE, SPI MASTER, USART ASSYNCRONOUS, USART SYNCRONOUS, LIN and MICROWIRE MASTER.

Depois de algum tempo entretido com a board de demonstração e de aprender a trabalhar com o software, decidi fazer um teste com um dispositivo verdadeiro. O dispositivo que usei foi um sensor magnético de dois eixos. O tipo de comunicação utilizada foi I2C.
After having some fun with the demo board and learning how the software works, I decided to test with a read device. The device I used was a magnetic dual axis sensor. The type of communication was I2C.
Uma vez que o meu dispositivo nao tem uma ficha de ligação directa, tive the consultar o manual para verificar os pinos do analisador.
Since my device does not have a direct connection with the analyzer, I had to check the pinout of the analyzer.
Peguei em alguns fios e fiz as ligações.
Grabbed some wires and connected everything.
A alimentação ao meu dispositivo é fornecida pelo analisador. É possivel escolher a voltagem de saida do analisador até 5V.
The power for the device will be delivered by the analyzer. It's possible to choose the amount o voltage that the analyzer can supply up to 5V.
As figura em baixo são as janelas de estado ( basica e avançada )
Bellow are the status windows ( basic and advanced ).
Existe também uma janela de scripts onde podemos memorizar botões para diferentes dispositivos e/ou sequências.
There's also a script window where we can assign buttons for different devices and/or sequences.
Clicando no botão de script o software irá executar o nosso script quantas vezes quisermos.
Na janela de transições podemos ver os dados a serem enviados pelo PC e recebidos pelo sensor. Reparem que os valores recebidos vão sendo diferentes porque a cada envio de dados eu ia rodando o sensor.
Pressing the scrip’s button will run our script as many times we need.
In the transactions window we can see the data sent by the software and the data received by the sensor. Notice that the values received are different because for each packet I rotated the sensor some degrees.
Assim como o programador PicKit, podemos facilmente fazer a actualização do firmware do nosso analisador PicKit serial.
O site da microchip tem o firmware mais recente disponivel. Basta fazer o download e o software irá abrir e transferir o ficheiro para o analisador.
Na mesma página da microchip também é possivel obter a versão mais recente do software para o PC.
Also like the PicKit programmer, we can easily update the PicKit serial analyzer’s firmware.
Microchip’s webpage has the latest firmware available. We just need to download it and the software will open it and transfer it to the analyzer.
